Connie, we used to have board fences, obviously because they were less
expensive for us. However, the time it required to replace rotten posts,
chewed, split or broken boards was getting a bit old. I persuaded (insisted,
really) Lud to purchase galvanized pipe panels. They went up much faster than
post and board fences, and we haven't had ANY maintenance since we bought and
installed them TEN years ago. Definitely a saving in the long run. More
original outlay, but a huge saving of replacement time and material. And they
are safe, as well. I wouldn't consider going back to wood posts and boards
for anything.
