Training ride
Hi all -
Went on a training ride this a.m. - 8 miles, flat, good footing, & nothing but
trot. At about mile 5, horse wants to lower head almost to the ground (while
still trotting - posting trot btw), feels like he wants to stretch his back,
so I let him. Keeps this up pretty much the rest of the way (3 miles) even
when I slow to a jog (defined as just slower than working trot & I can sit
rather that post). No outward problems that I could detect - saddle fits, no
lameness etc. I did vary speeds within the trot from jog to working to
extended (defined as just faster that working & I stand in stirrups - nothing
eye watering) probably about every half mile or so.
This was the longest stretch of flat trotting we have done (flat in AZ
sometimes is a little less climbing) so maybe tweaking some muscles that
haven't been tweaked.
Just wondered what you all thought - is it OK to continue like I did or should
I take that as a warning to drop to a walk instead.
Thanks for your wisdom -
