Re: RC: everyday easyboots
Hi Chelle,
I have used easy-boots since 1995 on all my horses, after my gelding,
Carbon, interfered at a CTR, summersaulting with me still in the saddle,
resulting in a smashed collar bone and damaged shoulder. He seldom
interferes with the boots, and the few times I have heard him do so he
has only pulled a boot off once.
The result has saved me lots of money and also really improved the
quality of the horses feet. I also took a farrier course so I could
learn about foot care and balance, and now do all my own trimming as
well. ( to be a real farrier would have killed my back and required
years of working as an apprentice)
I have lost a couple of boots over the years, but am still ahead. Karen
- Dreamweaver has all the answers and a web site to help- suggest you
go there - she posts to Ridecamp.
The horses have benefited - they have stronger hoof walls, better soles
and my mare who has one foot with low heel, long toe conformation has
shown the most improvement as I can trim that foot as often as needed
-every three weeks which has resulted in the foot slowly returning to
normal.
Last year I completed over 500 miles, both CTR and endurance without any
lameness problems or loosing any boots!
At the rides, I put the boots on before presenting my horse for
vetting. That way, I am not rushed (ha ha) afterwards. Some riders put
them on the night before.
Hope this helps.
