Re: RC: LD, Racing & Dogs in or out of camp
Hi April,
I am the one who maintains that distance riding is a team sport of
sorts... actually I forgot to mention the pit crew part of the team!
Shame on me! What gets my hackles up are the snobs who simply want
those who ride LD to have NO recognition at all! LD riders pay their
entries like everybody else and I don't think a placing ribbon is that
big of a deal. I am not exactly sure how 100 milers are recognized but
I see no reason why 25 LD cannot also be placed (they are here in
Michigan as well as judged for BC)... if 100 milers get some big whoop
dee do prize I haven't heard of, do tell! I guess I would just like to
see riders respected for who they are and how they ride their own
horses, not judged by the exceptions to them that race their horses...
somehow we got stuck on that word "race" and haven't come up out of the
hole yet. Whatever the definitions are or however the rules are worded
doesn't matter to me as much as the cameraderie and friendship and the
joy of going down the trail... oh, and the ribbon. Please don't forget
the ribbon no matter how many miles (25, 50 or 100). :) We ALL matter
because we ALL make up the sport of distance riding... speaking of it
being a "team" sport, I read this somewhere (can't remember where) that
may apply here... T.E.A.M. Together Everyone Achieves More. Let's keep
that in mind and work towards that goal no matter what kind of distance
we choose to ride!
Maggie
