LD fast

I find I cannot let the comments from Rex about riding his first LD as 
fast as he can go unanswered. I have seen people like this many times 
over the years since 1984.  They think even 25miles is easy. Just RUN.  
They almost always sit at the vet check wondering why everyone else has 
left and they still have a pulse of 100.  They don't seen to realize 
that there is much more to this game than running.  If it was only 
runnning, it wouldn't attract so many people. There is stategy involved, 
and psyching out the other riders, and of course, getting a good ride 
out of a healthy, happy horse at the end.  If they are smart, these 
people start to listen to others and find they can get much farther.
Regarding his comments about his dog, I think his dogs life is at risk.  
Many horses will kick, trample and shake a dog in their teeth, including 
mine.  And don't even THINK you could outrun me if I didn't want you 
to!!!
To other LDers: I think this a fun concept.  If 25 is what you want to 
do, fine.  Distance riding needs lots of people.  People like the above 
are the ones who give you a bad reputation and make ride managers 
hesitate to give awards for first,  which this guy couldn't get, 
anyways.
