Re: Re: LD, Racing & Dogs in or out of camp
OK, OK. I gotta say this. <G>
1. As for dogs, they don't belong at rides un attended. That means on a
leash! I am the most devoted dog person, I watched my best buddy Clem born
14 years ago, and he travels with me everywhere, except to rides! While I
love dogs, I have had enough bad expereinces with loose dogs including a
young Rottie male that chased us (the owners could see this, I was on the
road, and they were laughing.), that all my horses now charge dogs except my
own, and I carry mace with all the time. If you don't care about others
riding, consider this. There have been instances where dogs have been shot
on the trail while riding by scared or nasty hikers. Does your dog deserve
to die and suffer because you're selfish? He should be where he is safe if
you are a responsible owner. I don't know about where you are, but where I
am, loose dogs are also illegal. We have a lot of cyotes here as well. I
wouldn't want my dog out witrh them either. Your dog's best interest should
be at heart, not the selfish desire just to have him with you, when it may
not be safe.
2. LD. I'm an aspiring endurance rider, riding CTR now. Several reasons,
work hours and commitments for one. Also, right now, am not sure if I'LL be
able to handle endurance since smashing my leg and knee. (I can envision
lots of pain in riding a 100 miles now, that wasn't there before! <VBG>) But
I agree, Endurance is for the horse, and if you're going to do endurance,
why would you be satisfied with 25 miles? That should be a warm up! I see
endurance people at CTR's who do this. They race the whole 25-30 miles, and
then wait outside the come in point, until they are within there time
window. I'm sorry, but that totally defeats the purpose of CTR. If you want
to do one or two training rides, great. But then get on with it!!!! I may
be looking at physical limitations now for myself. But if I have a horse
that has the talent, and wants to go, I'm gonna make darn sure someone will
campaign him for me. No reason we should both suffer! <VBG>
