Ride managers are still free to award whatever they wish. It is AERC's 
position that not listing placement will discourage racing. I happen to 
agree, in part. Mainly, individual ride awards are not AERC's domain. 
Ozark Country Endurance Riders has an awards program that is responsive 
to the wishes of our membership. The LD Rider program is pretty much the 
same as for Endurance. It's what the membership voted on and racing 
hasn't been much of a problem. If it does, we'll address it on the local 
level (be it pulse rates, more vet checks, etc.). I know other regions 
have strong organizations, (SERA, PNER, etc). This is where the bulk of 
awards should be stressed and given because they can be tailored to what 
the local riders want, rather than have the national organization try to 
suit everybody, and end up pleasing nobody.
