Re: LD's
Rachel,
If you have ridden in 6 or 7 LD's then you are ready to move up to 50's. I
was told many, many years ago (early 1980's) when I rode my first 25 that I
should only do 2 or 3 25's before I moved up to 50's. And this was on a non
Arab (Appendix QH former jumper). I was even told that the more 25's I did
would make it more difficult for my horse to do 50's as he would be used to
the shorter distance. I have know idea if this info was true but after 3
25's I moved up to 50's and haven't looked back. If I'm starting a new
horse I may ride one 25 and then move up to 50. The sooner you get your
horse used to the longer distance the better. And no I don't race either.
Most of my conditioning is done on the endurance rides I go to and the
weekends in between rides. I work 40+ hours a week and before daylight
savings time kicks in I can only ride on weekends. If you wait until your
horse is 'ready' for its first 50 you may be waiting the rest of your life.
To finish is to win!
