Dogs in camp
After reading Deb's post and thinking "that sounds like the first hill
of the Celebration ride -- I've seen and ridden that hill", I will
remember her story this June as I ride up on my friend's steady, but
unseasoned, mare (I'm the guinea pig this year to get this mare seasoned
enough for junior riders).
I am new to this sport (have done a few novice CTR's and one 25 mile
CTR) and have this to say about my dog: from now on, she will ALWAYS be
on a leash, in my vehicle (in cool enough weather), or in a portable
kennel! She's happier to be with me than to stay home, even if she must
be constrained at the campsite. (Perhaps that the way we should all view
this.) I will also never again bring her with me (even on a leash) to
the vet check area.
She's a very calm dog and obedience trained, but I don't want to wreck
someone else's weekend (or the months following)!
