The Big Picture
Ridecampers,
I have never been to the NW, and don't know any of the horses or riders
being discussed in the protest issue.
Remember, the BOD must rule according to the big picture. I agree with
Bob Morris' last comments about the banning flap (a horse can be removed
from a ride AT THE TIME, but refusal of entries in the future MUST
follow strict guidelines).
Although it may seem obvious what constitutes a dangerous horse/rider,
in actual practice there will be a wide variety of opinions.
HYPOTHETICALLY, if a horse/rider who physically runs into me/my horse
gets kicked, they would in MY OPINION be equally(or even completely) at
fault. Who would get thrown out? What if such a person was notorious for
bouncing off others and causing many horses to kick? Does anyone have
the responsibility to just stay away from a horse acting up???? I know
there are opposing, equally valid points of view on this. In reality we
just can't always predict when a horse will blow up. The board must
protect as many sides as posssible, both from physical injuries AND
personal vendettas that may be fueled by rumor and misinformation.
