French link vs Dr. Bristol

>Am I mistaken in thinking a Dr. Bristol is similar to but MUCH harsher than
>a French snaffle?

In a French link -- first of all, the center link is shaped like a peanut
or a French lady <g>. In its' natural resting position, it lays flat on
the horse's tongue causing pressure on the tongue in a mild manner as well
as on the bars when there is contact. The points of attachment in the
mouth will still poke outward like a regular snaffle tho not as high or as
sharply. A KK French link connects mouth pieces (normal snaffle looking
parts) at a different angle so that points of attachment with the center
peanut lay flatter...not as pointed and pokey. ;-)

In the Dr. Bristol -- the center link is rectangular in shape and is set at
an angle so that one long thin side is positioned against the tongue which
results in a narrower contact of metal against the tongue -- a sharper cue
when contact is taken.
