Dr Bristol
The Dr Bristol is a harsher bit than a french link. They are both double
jointed bits but the french links middle link is smaller, shaped like a dog
bone and most importantly, lies flat. The Dr Bristol has a larger middle
link that is more rectangular in shape and is at an angle to the other
pieces.
They have a different action. Last I checked, the french link was legal for
dressage tests while the Dr Bristol is not - probably due to stronger
action. Event riders often use a Dr Bristol for cross-country day where it
is legal when they need more than a snaffle.
