For pre-ride feeding, two hours is a minimum. However, I try to work it so
that I leave excess hay the night before, and I normally feed all concentrates
in the evening (at home as well as at the ride), so all I have to do 2 hours
pre-ride is get up and make sure there is still hay, and replenish it if there
is not. Takes me about 2 minutes, and I go back to bed for an hour. My
experienced horses will bang and wake me up earlier if they run out of hay
earlier...
