Pastern laceration

Apollo has a cut about 1 sq. inch on the front of his front left pastern.  He got it about 8 days ago and it is not healing due to constant flex of that part of leg.  I have been cold hosing, cleaning with betadine and putting antibiotic cream on it but no bandage (again location) how long should this take to heal, should I bring in a DVM, the lady who runs the barn thinks it will heal on it's own and it isn't a stitches type of cut but I am afraid of infection as it is stil basically an open wound. Any ideas?  Cinder
