horse hooves/trimming

Is anyone familiar with the guy in NM who has developed a system to trim
his horses so their hooves are good for working but don't have to be shod,
even for rocky terrain?  I saw the original article in Equus a few months
ago.  Am considering trying his methods.  Mary Ann, Tx
