Prineville Ride results

The 27th Prineville Ride was held on the Crooked River National Grasslands
May 9, 1998. A record 154 riders started. The 75 miler had 31 starters
(including 3 juniors) with 30 finishing. The 50 miler had 75 starters
(including 7 juniors) with 65 finishing and the 25 miler limited distance
had 48 starting (including 7 juniors) with 45 completing. The weather was
cool - around 55 to 60 - with brisk breeze throughout the day. The riders
were probably warm, but us paper pushers and pulse takers were pretty cold.

The Prineville Ridge Riders have helped Cole Still put on this ride for the
last 27 years. Cole puts in countless hours every year checking and
maintaining the trails for this ride. He stacks rocks and digs out rocks,
rakes the trail, makes sure branches won't whack you in the face, not too
mention moving cows, coordinating with the ranchers and the forest service
and hanging ribbons. Without Cole there wouldn't be a Prineville Ride. Cole
is 77 this year and even though he wasn't feeling well he still rode and
came in first in the 25 miler. The rest of us club members that helped to
put it on appreciate him and we appreciated the riders that took the time to
thank Cole for this ride. He said that the rest area he had set up was never
used... :) 

As a side note Cole and the Prineville Ridge Riders will also be taking over
the Bandit Springs ride this year from the Tribbys. It will be July 18 and
the info in the PNER book is still accurate except for ride manager. Please
