You can change it to billets.  My friend has a McClintock with English
rigging.  The billets can be run over the tree and screwed at any point to
lock the forward/back position.   You would have to check and see if your tree
would accept a 'dropped bar' stirrup leather hanger.  Most of O/F's trail
saddles have had the dropped bar with good success; less bulk over the tree.
Ortho-Flex used to have a screw at the top of their Traditional tree to adjust
the forward/back position of where you wanted your stirrup leathers/fenders to
hang-a nice option.
