entering rides

Sorry if this is a dumb question but being a newbie at this I don't really
know the correct procedure.
I have called several ride managers asking for entry forms for their rides.
As of this date, I have only received one flyer and when I called the person
in charge was told that I could enter at the ride.
Is this standard procedure?  Do you normally just enter when you arrive or
do you need to pre-enter?  I don't want to start off by doing this kind of
stuff wrong.
