What's a quirt?  Well, it's like a squirt only different. ;-)  
Actually, it's any old leather strap or whip that one carries to hit 
bubbas, snakes (if ya can tell the difference) and barrel racing 
horses.  Maybe it's a western term.  Or maybe some of us are dating 
ourselves by using it.  When I was a kid riding around like some kind 
of injun, we used quirts.  Later when I started using one a them dang 
english saddles it was a crop (though that's confusing cuz I thought 
the corn out back was a crop).  Guess those barrel racing gals use a 
"bat" now.  This is almost as bad as names of bits!
