Re: NOT FLUFF

In a message dated 98-03-12 14:59:02 EST, you write:

<< A 25-miler is not 1/2 as tough
as 50-miles annymore than 50-miles is 1/2 as tough as 100. There is no
linear relationship here. That's why 25 miles is Limited Distance and
Endurance (barely) starts at 50. >>
While 1/2 was stated not to start splitting hairs over the curve of lactic
acid build-up and cardiovascular recovery, the inference was that, if 25 miles
is not a challenge of endurance, then why count the first 25 miles of the 50s?
Indeed, there are many as you know who contest that a horse should be going 50
miles at all and would label it as abuse. Somewhere in the middle is the truth
of course, and as such, 100 milers must not denigrate the efforts of 50
milers and 50 milers must not denigrate the efforts of the 25 milers. Finally,
no one said that 25 miles is the SAME as 50 miles, however, it is most
certainly an effort of endurance in many ways. As I said, ask any number of
professional trainers.
