If the thought of a 15 mile (for example) novice ride turning into a race is
so much of a problem, why not run a competitive ride for the novices?  This
is standard procedure in the Midwest.  With a competitive ride there is both
a maximum and a minimum time so the pace is effectively fixed.  While the
wording is not clear, there must be no problem in having a competitive ride
under the new rules or our Midwest representatives on the board would be
raising a fuss.
