Advantages to a short horse;

  Easy to mount and dismount
  Shorter distance to ground in case of an "emergency" dismount
  Don't hit as many spider webs
  Can go under more fallen trees without getting off
  Less string on your sponge
  Less grooming time
  
Disadvantages to a short horse:

  The shorter the horse, the more your farrior dislikes it
  Jumping fallen trees MAY be more difficult (most short horses are quite
gamey)
  Your neck may be more tired, always looking up to your riding partner
