preferred rain gear

I know this is the right group to ask about rain gear!  What does everyone
prefer.  Rain suits (with pants, jacket, etc.) or the Australian type of
coats.  What material is preferable?  Are the PVC's OK for short term
use....or do they "sweat" too much internally?  Any comments, experiences
would be appreciated!
