<< But be aware that rabies in horse is very difficult
to diagnose. It can in fact be difficult to diagnose in humans. One case
went undiagnosed to the point where when it was finally diagnosed, there
were 50 people (mostly medical personel) that had to get the post exposure
rabies series. There is a degree of responsibility to other people that may
transcend your personal risk assessment. >>
DEar Duncan, I absolutely reject the notion that I should disregard my own
hard won knowledge and experience, and put myself or my loved ones (that
includes the animals) at risk to soothe the mental angst of people less
informed than myself. I have gotten this silly arguement from people who
want me to immunize/vaccinate my daughter--"You put other children at risk if
you don't vaccinate your kids"--bullshit. In fact, if vaccines did what it
is claimed they do, then other children should be protected from anything my
kid might have--MY daughter is most likely the one at risk here! Except I
don't believe that either, or I'd vaccinate her. Same arguement holds true
for the animals--if yours are vaccinated, and vaccines do what it is claimed
they do--then you've nothing to fear from my non-vaccinated horse.
My responsibility is to myself and my loved ones FIRST. That I owe some dept
to society great enough to disregard this fact is the root idea of communism.
Not my cup of tea. Sorry.
