Trish, I understand your position and if that is what you want to do,
great. However, I would strongly encourage people to talk to their vets
and do alot of reading on the subject before deciding not to vaccinate.
Vaccinations play an important part in keeping us and our animals
healthy. Rabies is not the common cold.
I worked for a few years in an Animal Emergency Clinic. We had animals
come in with heat strokes, torsions, car accident injuries and so forth.
But the ones hardest to take were animals who came in with distemper,
parvovirus and other problems that could have been treated with one
little shot. Granted these were dogs and cats and the occasional lion
(yes we did treat a lion one time). The fact that vaccinations do work
is not a figment of someone's imagination.
I think Holistic Medicine has its place and I think it is important. I
am a believer in herbs. I have no quarrel with you in that respect.
But I also believe that in order to have a balance and get the best of
both worlds (Holistic and Modern Medicine) you must also respect Modern
Medicine and the good it does.
Rabies is endemic in my part of the country. There are also outbreaks
of encephalitis. Not to take every precaution to protect my beloved
horses from these horrible diseases would be extremely irresponsible on
my part.
I have a 24yr. old mare who has been vaccinated every year for all of
the 17 years I have owned her. I also have her daughter who is 14 and
she also has been vaccinated every year since she was born. They are
both healthy horses not prone to colic or other health problems.
Well, this turned into my .50cents worth. Here's hoping we can all live
in harmony even though our beliefs are different.
Marylee Patrick----->who hopes she finally got the address correct. Seem
to have a problem with that.
