races that have monied prizes. The inequities of weight need to be
compromised when you are crowning a national champion!!! The class B
races would be your lick.
I think you are a long way from Class A races....

Dear Carl, sorry, I too am an endurance "newbie'--an endurance wannabee as of
yet, actually, but I absolutely agree with Glenda and everyone else who has
stated that they are not interested in weight handicapping this sport. My
horse, David, is only 6 years old, and our first races will be "to finish",
not to win, but eventually I'd like to get more competitive than that. I
dream of competing in, yes, I even dream of winning, the Tevis cup. But gee,
I don't have mountains to train in--should I get a "mountain" handicap. You
see the slippery slope you put this sport on with your handicapping idea.
One thing I know, when I'm ready for a championship race, when David is
ready--if I'm asked to put lead in the saddlebags to make things more
"fair"--you will me pack up my trailer and go home--and start a seperate
endurance conference which does not engage in such nonsense. Sounds like I
won't have trouble finding people who will join me? The question might
rather become, will there be many folks left in the original conference other
than disgruntled heavyweights?

Respectfully,

Trish & "pretty David"
