We do the I-10 to I-5 without too much trouble because we travel out
night during the summer. Temps are far cooler and traffic is minimal.
The first lunch stop is usually at the fairground in Lordsburg. The
horses can run around the arena and roll. There is water there for the
horses. There are also showers in the trailer park next door for a fee.
That night you can stop in the KOA kampground south of Phoenix. They
have two corrals and hook-ups. Can't remember the name now but its
about 45 minutes south on I-10 around Casa Grande. The KOA 800 number
will tell you. Because of the size of our rigg and the number of horses
we travel with, we stay at the roping arena next to the KOA. (We are
totally self-contained and carry 100's of gallons of horse water).
have 4 corrals and hook-ups. We stop between Palm Springs and San
Bernardio to get the horses out. Usually on a dirt side road.
bedded stalls and grassy fields for exercise. The night caretaker lives
in a mobile home on the West side of the grounds. There's a night bell
on the fence next to the gate.
Bluff and push on. We like to stop because we limit travel to about 8
hours/day. Also, we get the horses out every 4 hours.
Let us know when you get the SoOregon, we'll introduce you to the local
club and get you started in PNER.
Hope this helps.
