"JU$T $AY NEIGH"

Yep,

Been a ride manager for CTR rides. Wrote a 3 page outline of all the things
that needed doing - starting 3 mo. prior to the ride. We even MADE money.
(I don't have a problem with the "refund" being entry for the ride the
following year, that would work, or a small fee for withdrawing.)

Talk about making money though - are we in it to make money? Or have a ride
break even? If we want to make money - a Poker Ride is the way to do it!
Every poker ride I've either helped with, or rode, made money! That's how we
kept our CTR club alive! We also hosted a yearly "clinic" for new riders, or
people interested in getting into the sport. Shorter distance, but same
rules. That usually made money too, plus the benefit of having more riders at
the "paying" rides. We tried to be a "user friendly" group.

I'm glad that many members of this group seem to have enough of a disposable
income that $ aren't a consideration - if you can afford to pay to not ride,
more power to you. To keep our horses in good health, i.e. Vet, worming,
food, vitamins, shoeing, etc., is the priority - then if enoughs left over -
we get to do rides! Though - if they get much more expensive - - - I don't
know how families with Jr. riders do it - & agree fully that Jr.'s should ride
for free.

Speaking of expenses, isn't one of the largest the Vet bills? Maybe we should
start compiling information regarding what ride managers pay for Vets? Any
ideas on how this expense could be reduced? In any business I've been
involved in - when charges to the "customer" got out of control, we took a
hard look at our expenses.

Wouldn't it be grand to spend some energy trying to find ways to REDUCE ride
fees? How about going ahead & finding a few sponsors. I know that our local
tack, & feed stores were always willing to donate items for ride awards.
Maybe if the T-Shirts were printed with the ride logo on the front, & a small
business logo on the back?

It's raining - it's gray - so please don't flame me - the light will hurt my
eyes!
