Wonderdust?
Kind of like a greyish/blue powder?
You can get it at Walmart for about $5.

Yes, a greyish powder that turns blue when moistened. Haven't had a chance
to look at the container yet but my vet bill lists it as "Caustic powder" and
I was charged $8. Sounds about right! Anyway, it really seems to knock back
the flesh to allow the skin to grow over it.

One of the other wonderful benefits of wonderdust is that it really
seems to repel flies. One summer our donkey had scraped all the
skin off the front of the hock, about the size of an orange. The
Wonderdust not only prevents proud flesh, but also sort of sticks
to the wound and stops the oozing, keeping the flies away.
