I again did not ride but did part time PR ..they were well staffed.. the
good weather kept all workers on station..

I also helped crew for two first time 50 milers. --my shoer Scott Denman and
Debbie Lashly.. they both finished in good order with horses in fine shape.
Neither ever heard of this game until Scott started shoeing for the 'yankee'
endurance riders who just moved to TN.. about 1 year ago.
They have very nice 'regular' horses.. no major papers or flash..just good
honest trail horses. They have been doing the cowboy thing...LOTS of riding

They started with going to a NATRC ride to ride 'back safety' . Then decided
they wanted to do an AERC LD last Sept at Big South Fork.
Carol and I never rode with them to help them learn.. We just coached them..
and gave lots of advise.. they went to the NATRC rides to mostly vist with us
and a few other endurance riders that do CTR also.. but mostly to put in the
long slow miles..

Carol brought out her then 22 year old retired Arab.. 14-2 and thinks he is
10 yrs..at 15-3
SHe got him ready for a NATRC Ride as a base but never took him...so she
agreed to 'take' Scott and Deb around slow on the BSF LD..They learned fast.

They went on the Biltmore 50 alone.. did it right.. we were real proud.. we
were glad to help start 2 more riders in this sport.
They plan on doing more this fall.

We also started another new rider in LD.. Deb Sloan.. she finished well
..with more planned

Carol-- and MAGIC after BSF LD did a NATRC open in Sept, another NATRC Open
at BSF 3 weeks ago..
then the 30 LD - 5:03 hrs.. all As
The 'old pony' at 23 is still ready to go on.
He had a great early life- our daughter ran him from 4 to 7, he did the OD100
at 6..then she quit.. but we kept him..Carol did some rides with him but no
major effort.

Now she is woundering if he can do a 50.. we may try the GERA ride at Dawson
Forest ...??

NEXT year WE BOTH plan on the 50.. with our new horses.
