I am very familiar with this syndrome (RMIMR). It is a very serious
condition and can prove fatal if not treated. People with this
condition exhibit masochism to an extreme degree. They are sometimes
suicidal, and they can become psychopathic killers.
To control this syndrome, when an episode becomes accute at ~ 10 days
pre-event, you must keep a sense of humor, and find a support group to
vent to daily. At the climax of the episode (day-before, day(s)-of and
day-after ride event), surround yourself with competent, fun-loving
assistants. This is IMPERATIVE. Your assistants MUST NOT also be
exhibiting psychopathic symptoms. If this happens, Janet Reno may call
out the ATF.
There is no "cure" for this syndrome. Once you have it, you are a
full-blown addict. Your only hope for relief is to turn to a "Higher
Power" for help and follow a 12-step program. You will never be cured.
At best, prognosis is continual "recovery".

PS. Truman, if you ever need to vent. I'm just a keyboard away.
