Yes, but the "west" is a Biiiig place.

I was reading the post from a few months back about the Historic
Outlaw Trail in Utah, and then, more recently, the Outlaw Trail in
Wyoming, thinking how great it would be to do those rides... and
then I realised the Utah ride is at least 600 miles away, and Wyoming
about 1500 miles away.

How long would it take to trailer 1500 miles? Then you have a day
or so for recovery; and then ride for 5 days; then another day or
so for recovery; and then home again. So you're looking at a two week
trip. And how many weeks vacation do I get each year? Two weeks.
Hmm. This equation doesn't quite work out if I want to take any
other vacation throughout the year (this just proves to me that
American companies don't give nearly enough vacation time).

I can understand the argument that there are a finite number of
people who will want to do five day rides, but wonder whether a
lot of that is dictated by how far away the rides are? A few
people have said if there was one in the NE/SE, they'd love to
do it. As it stands, I'm within "relatively easy" trailering
distance to Death Valley and Applegate/Lassen, and Tevis is on
the doorstep... so I don't think I'm ever likely to move house.
All I really need is a horse... <grin>
