Here, here! Tina!
At the end of the day, it comes down to freedom of choice and making a
commitment.
We currently have 5 horses in work ( two youngsters who are basically doing
only arena work and some initial road work) and the other 3 - 2 are novices
about to do a 40 kilometer "training ride" , and the other is the current
Queensland (Australia) Champion. My wife and I work full time in demanding
jobs, but we CHOOSE to train horses in our "spare" time.
I think that there is a place for what we call training rides, which are non
competitive, but the rider gets a completion award, and some people will never
want to do more. We use them for just that......training for an 80 kilometer
or 160 km ride later in the season.
