Unsoundness vs. breeding stock

I understand your concern regarding the breeding of horses which have
sustained career ending injuries, but in the case of Reign On and many
other horses like him (show horses) take a good look at his feet during
the time of the injury. His toes are LOOOONG and that puts a tremendous
amount of pressure on the tendons he "blew". This horse and many like
him would not have suffered these injuries if they had been shod
correctly for the competition they were being asked to do. If we tried
an endurance ride with some of the "horse show" toes we see in the
big Arabian horse magazines, we too would be sitting at home with
blown tendons on our horses. I think the horse show community who
adopted the long toes a few years ago as status quo could really use
a seminar on form to function!
