This brings me to the conclusion that the AERC should be recognizing these
people who go above and beyond to offer a safe and enjoyable ride for all
participants. Having been a ride manager, I KNOW the grief that can accompany
such an undertaking. I will NEVER complain about a ride ever again unless
there is a total disregard for horse and rider safety by the ride management.
I believe the AERC should be recognizing these folks who are the backbone of
the organization. After all, without ride managers there are no rides. We
have lots of awards for riders, how 'bout a Ride Manager of the Year Award to
recognize these exceptional people such as Terry. I mean, there are some
managers who put on lots of rides during the year, or have put on a certain
ride for years and years.
Let's encourage more people to take the plunge into ride management. There
are lots of smart, well-organized people who would do a terrrific job but
hesitate to take on all the bullsh_t that goes with it. Also, let's encourage
the AERC to be more helpful toward first-time ride managers with a "Mentor
Program". (I've also thought a "Mentor Program" would be good for people just
starting out in the sport).
Well that's my two-cents!
