Far too many "breeders" are looking at pedigrees (genotype) rather than
individuals (phenotype). I am sure you are well aware of this.
I remember years ago when most arab people thought endurance arabs were
rejects from the show ring. I think we have proven our point. In fact, too
many "show arabs" would NEVER make it on trail. Seems the judges can't see a
"using" animal..they only see pretty faces...
Although I don't have the miles of experience you and Arlene have...I have
been a distance rider since 1972 and have watched the aches and pains of
growth...for the better I may add. It is wonderful to see so many people
really care about their horses health and well-being. That's why I love this
sport and the people in it. We all have a common goal..to get to the finish
line with the most possible horse and have FUN doing it.
