Tina, I am normally a very polite person and usually friendly but have been
in situations that you described where another rider does not want to engage
in conversation or does not show gratitude for concern. Me being the one
not to talk. Sometimes on rides I'll experience terrible spasms in my neck
(c-5 unstable) or stomach cramping and at times it is an effort to force a
smile to a passer by when I'm feeling poorly.
On the Kiwanis ride climbing the steepest part of the trail, my horse
refused to move. I got off and emmediately paniced and at that time a boy
and his father rode by and asked if we were OK and me besides myself with
worry, responded with a ya...that's it. Wish later I could have found those
people and thenk them for stopping and showing concern. After I calmed down
and took PR, assessed his condition (at this time he was muching on grass
along the trail, the booger scared me to death) and realized he was just
tight in the rear end and massaged him. But at that point realized I would
have been more appreciative.
Having been there, I can relate that some people maybe having a bad ride day
and not feel friendly, ofcourse that is not the same as rudeness and
there's no excuse for that. Tina you may run into the very same people
again on another ride and they will be most pleasant. Glad you do ride to
have fun...so do I and if riders get too serious that they CONSISTENTLY are
unfriendly, then they are missing the best of endurance. Hope someday I
will have the chance to jat with you on the trail. Linda
