treeless saddles

I'm going to word this differently...some people have stated they prefer the
conventional saddles with bars or panels to distribute the weight of the
rider and is the reason they feel a treeless saddle is not good for the
horse. My problems have all been related to those bars or panels, despite
good fit. Digging and restricting movement. Can anyone tell me really why
the envention of saddle bars. Is it more for rider comfort...it does
distribute weight but in turn causes quite often another set of problems, of
which I'm constantly plagued. Indians rode alot bareback and those of you
that do or have in the past...did you find that your horse's back was
terribly sore from lack of protection between rider and horse? I'm not
suggesting doing distance riding bareback; my point being, since I haven't
gotten my SS yet and don't know, but before the envention of the saddle,
were horses as sore as they are now and maybe a saddle as the SS though does
not distribute weight like panels but may be a hek alot easier on a horse's
back, than those bars.
Maybe the reason the saddle was invented, was we weren't protecting the
horse's spine from our But...rather we were protecting our But from the
horse's spine. Linda
