Trav had intermittant wind puffs Spring a year ago that I couldn't
correlate to any activity or lack of activity. Some days they were there,
occasionally they weren't. I picked up a book in a tack shop (don't
remember the name but I think It as from England and about Homepathic
remedies) and looked up "wind puffs". There was a paragraph about
treating it as an allergic condition and using the remedy "Apis" once an
hour for four hours. No dosage was suggested so I gave 6 of the little
pills. That took care of the back leg swelling until this Spring. I did
the Apis remedy again after 4 or 5 occasions of fillings - and once again
I had no unexplained filling to date.
This is hardly scientific - but it's cheap and, at worse, causes no harm.
When I have filling after excessively hard or long work, I ice, wrap etc
as others have suggested.
Does anyone else have information about horses and allergies?
