arab horse

I am writing a novel where the hero has to ride his Arab mare,
across 120 miles of rough country to save the heroine from being abducted
on a ship. The horse is in peak condition. The going is cold but hard.
They have to get a ferry across across a river - delay of about one hour.
Hero is ahorse-l0ver who must not mistreat the animal.
Can she do it in 24 hours? Could give her 36 at the outside. She has to beat a ssteam-ship. Year is 1831. Setting is Dartmoor, England. Mare is called Zaraband.

Any estimates of times would be very gratefully received.
