I too have a 24 yr old quarter horse mare that my farrier diagnosed as having
low ringbone. I have not called the vet but plan to soon. She seems to be
in mild pain. I never heard of ringbone. I just assumed she was getting
old and maybe it was arthritis or something. She is slightly lame in her
front left more so than the right. She is retired and it saddens me because
she was my first horse. I learned to ride on her bareback with a halter and
lead rope. I can't afford the surgery you discussed either. So what are we
to do? Bute? Flex-Free? What? When will I know the time when the time has
come to put her down? It is going to be hard!!!!!
