I'm not all legs like Tina--my inseam is 34"--so I do have a long torso.
I've just gone from a short-coupled 14:3 hh Arab to a long-necked,
long-back, long-legged (long-coupled??) 15 hh Arab. The latter is clearly a
much better proportioned horse for me, not because of his height or weight
(no significant difference there), but because of his length.
On the short-coupled horse, I noticed he would react strongly to keep
balanced whenever I shifted my upper body weight, such as when ducking a
tree branch or reaching down to adjust equipment. And I always felt like
there wasn't much horse in front of me--rather unnerving. The longer-bodied
horse feels much more secure, and he seems to handle weight shifts much
better.
