I just joined your group a month ago and although this has nothing to do with endurance
I would like to tell you about a project our 4H club is doing. We live in northern ND and
have a very small club, but we love horses. So about 10 kids and myself are putting
together a horse club.
Well, we had a tragic and violent thing happen in our small town of Mohall (populaion
931). A husband has been charged with stabbing and killing his wife and leaving six
children ages 1 through 16 without parents.
We don't experience very much violence in rural North Dakota so this has hit the
community hard. So our 4H club decided to put on a ride-a-thon to help raise money
for these six children. We are putting together a trail ride where we are asking people
to pledge money for every mile we ride. We are going to be riding about 15 miles since
we will have some small children riding and we are asking for as many riders as we can
get to participate.
Six of these 4H members went out after school last night and went door to door in Mohall,
without stopping for supper, (they didn't want to stop) and raised $500. The ride takes
place on May 4th. So for the next couple of days these kids want to continue going to
small towns and asking people to pledge them in this ride. These six 4H members ages range from 10 through 18, and their club is called the Renville Roughriders. As a 4H leader and a parent, I am very proud of their effort.
What I am wondering of this group, is there anyone out there who would be willing to
help with pledges or with riding in this event? We would appreciate any effort,
even some email messages.
