Hi, I'm Silvia Beaton, VP of Prince Edward Island Trail Riding
Association (PEITRA). Our association is located in the east part of
Canada (in the Maritimes). This is my first time trying to be part of the
conversation on the internet endurance. You see I have a problem (one of
many since I own several horses) People stealing saddles. Does any one
know where I can get a saddle holder that is bolted to the wall and the
saddle can be locked onto the holder. In the State Line tack shop
catalogue there are locking holders for english saddles but none for
western saddles. I called the company but they do not have locking
holders for western saddles. With my new mare (6 years old) she goes well
only in the western saddle so getting an english saddle is out of the
question!!! So far the saddle I'm using on her is the only one she will
allow on her back. Every other saddle she would rear over backward as
soon as weight was added. The current saddle was a beat up saddle that
I've now bought and repaired (Expensive). So now I have a western saddle
to compete on Competitve Trail rides (ctr's and JP's are the only
competitions available here) and I do not want it stolen. The barn is on
a looooonnnnng clay lane (1/2 mile long) up a steep hill so you see
carrying the saddle around is not a first choose. Also lugging it from
the house to the barn is also a pain since there is a very good and
serviceable tack room in the barn. Unfortunately locked doors do not
provide a deterant but the locking english saddle holders did prove to be
a deterant. The theives/thief likes saddles and fancy show bridles. The
bridles are not a problem because I always take it in the be washed after
use (I use an english hackamore because riding with just a halter is
frowned upon here) and ride using natural aides (I have no use for a
bridle on my horses besides they just ignore the bit). Any help
or suggestions would be appriecated to solving the sicky fingers in our
area.
