Hi,
The worse thing that I ever forgot was water for the horse. We were on a weekend
ride and it never occurred to me that my sensible connemara would not drink
water that was not familiar. I gave him tons of opportunity to drink but he
would not. I now bring 20 gallons of ranch water with me when we go anywhere. I
spike the local water with the ranch water and this seems to work O.K.( the
ranch water seems to have a definite taste and smell.) I think that the horse
also got used to being away from home and so was more relaxed. I also realized
that he was not crazy about drinking out of a bucket so now I bring a clean muck
bucket for him to drink out of at camp. It is unbelievable how much stuff one horse
needs for a weekend. Although the worse thing I have ever forgotten was water,
the list of things that I have forgotten is almost endless. I now have a
checklist that I use.
