I must admit I liked the fact that the NATRC put on Clinics where
everyone heard about trail courtesy, etc, before you actually join. As
a beginner, I learned a lot of valuable information, ie: I was guilty
of following too close..one horse length is not enough, 2 should be
minimum.

I know a lot of people don't want rules and regulations shoved down
their throat, but we live successfully in this society because there
are rules to guide us. Why not state trail rules during the pre vet
check or regular orientations?

I can't speak from experience as I've never been on a 25 miler before,
but I do have 4 years of almost weekly long trail rides under me. I've
never been smashed into or crowded on the trail. Bikers, hikers and
other equestrians have always shown me the same courtey I show them. I
find initial eye contact and a smile works wonders with people. I
don't think it is That Bad out there....

I also don't think most people are just out to "get theirs". I think
what we all have in common is a love for these animals and a pleasure
in spendig time with them and observing their interactions, with us and
other horses. Hopefully, I am not just being naive...only time will
tell.....
