SIDENOTE: As with any form of physical exertion, if you must stretch BEFORE
your activity, do it gently and slowly, since the muscle fibres are not
warmed up. Body temperature has little relatioship to deep body :core" temp.,
and too much stretching prior to proper warm-up can result in tears to the
muscle spindles and micro fibres of the soft tissue structures. It is
recommended from every training room and P.T. room I have worked in over the
last 15 years that the stretching coincide with the gradual warm-up of the
core temperature. In fact, I generally stretch as I run; first I walk a half
mile or so, then easy jog another half mile, and begin to stretch as I pick
up speed over the last couple of miles. When I get home - IT'S TIME FOR
SIT-UPS! YUCK! san
