So what are your thoughts on the Anglo Arab? I have a 2 yo
anglo arab who will definitely be trained for an endurance career.
He is built and moves more like the TB, but has the personality+
of his Arab parent and grandparents.
An Anglo Arab has won Tevis on at least one occasion. I fully
expect that my youngster can one day compete with the best of
them.

There are several reasons that Arabs do better than TB.
Present day TB are breed to run short distances.
Arabs have been breed for centuries to just keep on trucking all day
long.
I've seen a couple TB in endurance rides. Even though the riders are
careful, the TB seem to get hot and tired quickly. They cannot cool
off fast enough. This gives them excess muscle fatigue. So over the
longer distances, they just get tired.
The Arabs on the other hand have blood vessles close to the surface
to enhance cooling. They have a greater fast twitch to slow twitch
muscle ratio (I think I got that right way round). This lets the
muscles work at a constant slow rate for a longer period of time.
As opposed to the other way, lots of quick muscle movements, but
only for a short time (like a QH). They also have larger windpipes
to take in more air to keep from getting winded over the long haul.
They seem to learn what a ribbon is for:-) They can find a trail
on their own:-) And they always know the way home:-)
And besides, would you rather spend your day with a ex-race horse
with no personality, or with a beautiful Arab that has an over
abundance of personality. :-)
