I have been reading this dialog for the last two days, but
nothing could have prepared me for the call I got early this
morning.
One of my dearest friends was critically injured yesterday
while foxhunting. Even a helmet could not prevent the
injuries he suffered. He remains unconscious with his neck
broken in three places. Kenny Wilson is one of the best
riders I know. A tight seat has taken him through 70 odd
years, most of it spent in the saddle. He's done everything
- steeplechase, jumpers, hunters, competitive rides, and his
greatest love hunting. Kenny could hunt everyday of the
week, and often did because he belonged to several hunts.
I've often watch him calmly ride the most unruly horses.
He could put up with whatever they dished out. I'm afraid
he lost this time.
His accident occurred while going up a creek bank. His
new mare lost her footing and fell. He was thrown clear,
but obviously landed badly. The doctors don't know yet
the extent of paralysis that could be present if he regains
consciousness. It doesn't look good.
For those of you who believe in the power of prayer,
please say one for Kenny and his family.
Thanks for letting me vent,
Sally
