An update on this Arab... he's doing much
better. My friend is doing a couple things
that are helping. First, she chases him
away from his feeding spot before she puts
food out. Now he will wait patiently away
and only aproach after he's been invited.
He has transferred this to everyone who
handles him and all are being consistant.
This has helped a lot.
Under saddle her trainer started teaching
him leg yeilds and bending. He was stiff
at first, but she's been really working with
him. He's learned a lot in the last couple
weeks and, again, this has contributed to
a better all around attitude.
She has modified a soft lined nylon foal
halter with an added leather insert so it
will fit him comfortably (his little arab
nose fits fine) and make a safety halter.
He wears this most of the time and she can
use it to discipline him when necessary.
His ground manners have improved dramatically.
She did not have access to a round pen, but
John Ramos from the ranch I'm at just bought
one. I'm planning on using it myself and
I'm pretty sure he'll let her lease it on
an as-needed basis. So I think we've got
our round pen needs met, finally. (the
lease money assures that she and her horse
are covered under the ranch insurance...
or why she can't just use it for free...)
Again, thanks to all who sent info... it
really helped!
